Macarthur Preschool Philosophy

We believe that the first five years are a crucial time in children's lives and as such a program that reflects this important time is vital.

"A Child's Place"

All children have human rights, are honoured and respected for their uniqueness and are accepted and integrated into the inclusive programme.

Children are competent learners with many strengths and interests to share.
Happy, healthy children and educators in a protective and secure environment where we all support children's and educators social, emotional, mental and physical health and wellbeing.
Intentional teaching and spontaneous experiences are embedded in our program to extend and deepen children's learning.

Learning through play is critical and essential.
Diversity of children and families and respect for their needs, cultures and beliefs.
Sustainable practices are embedded in our daily routine.

Partnerships between children, families and our community are developed and respected. We collaborate with people, services and agencies in the community to support our children and families.
Learning and professional development for staff is ongoing as well as critical reflections on educational practices.
Acknowledgement and respect for the Dharawal people, the traditional custodians of the land on which the preschool is situated.
Children are free to explore and develop a respect for the natural environment.
Educators act in the best interest of all children and encourage and nurture each child's sense of Being, Belonging and Becoming.

Brief history of Macarthur Preschool

Macarthur Preschool Association formed in 1975 and in 1978 began operating as Macarthur Mobile Preschool Kindergarten Ltd., serving the areas of Cobbitty, Cawdor and Elderslie. A decision was made to utilize land owned by the Council to establish a permanent Preschool.

In July 1984 the Centre opened to serve the Camden area. All this was accomplished by a voluntary Committee and parents from the Preschool. To this day, the Parent Committee plays a vital role in the operation of the Preschool. Children attend on a 2 or 3 day basis - Monday/Tuesday, Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, Thursday/Friday, Wednesday/Thursday/Friday from 8.30am - 4.00pm and in accordance with government school terms.
