Macarthur Preschool Philosophy

We believe that the first five years are a crucial time in children's lives and as such a program that reflects this important time is vital.

"A Child's Place"

All children have human rights and are respected for their views, ideas and uniqueness.

Children are competent learners whose voices, visions and ideas are encouraged and valued.
Happy, healthy children and educators engage and learn from each other and support each other's wellbeing throughout unhurried days.
Intentional teaching, spontaneous experiences and child-initiated activities are embedded in our programme and children are provided with a variety of loose parts to enhance their play.

Learning through play is crucial to children's sense of agency and competency and in developing shared sustained thinking and learning.
Diversity of children and families is respected, and thir needs, culture and beliefs are valued.
Sustainable practices are embedded in our daily routine and children's connection to the natural world is actively encouraged.

Partnerships between children's families and our community are developed and respected. We collaborate with services and agencies in the community to benefit both children and families.
Learning and professional development for staff is ongoing and we are committed to reflecting critically on educational practices daily.
Acknowledgement and respect for the Dharawal people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the preschool stands. Their culture and perspectives are embedded into our programme.
Children are free to explore and care for the natural environment and utilise materials from it in their play.
Educators advocate for and act in the best interests of all children and in turn, nurture each child's sense of Being, Belonging and Becoming.

Brief history of Macarthur Preschool

Macarthur Preschool Association formed in 1975 and in 1978 began operating as Macarthur Mobile Preschool Kindergarten Ltd., serving the areas of Cobbitty, Cawdor and Elderslie. A decision was made to utilize land owned by the Council to establish a permanent Preschool.

In July 1984 the Centre opened to serve the Camden area. All this was accomplished by a voluntary Committee and parents from the Preschool. To this day, the Parent Committee plays a vital role in the operation of the Preschool. Children attend on a 2 or 3 day basis - Monday/Tuesday, Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, Thursday/Friday, Wednesday/Thursday/Friday from 8.30am - 4.00pm and in accordance with government school terms.
